Clarksville native and American Idol winner will kick off the 2019 Iowa State Fair with a free concert.

Poppe will perform on August 8 at the Susan Knapp Amphitheater. The Iowa singer-songwriter will release of her debut album this weekend, entitled “Whirlwind.”

In a recent social media post, Poppe said that she named the album “Whirlwind” because in the past year of her life, that’s a word she’s heard “very, very often.” She also said she felt like it best described her album and her life right now.

Grandstand entertainment slated for the Iowa State Fair this year includes For King & Country on Aug. 8, The Chainsmokers on Aug.9, Slipknot on Aug. 10, the Zac Brown Band on Aug. 11, Dan + Shay on Aug. 13, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias on Aug. 14, Foreigner on Aug. 15, Luke Bryan on Aug. 16, Pentatonix on Aug. 17, and Hootie and the Blowfish on Aug. 18.
