The Charles City High School Drama Department has announced that its spring play in 2020 will be ‘MASH.’ Dates of the production are April 17-19 at North Grand Auditorium. Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 13 and 14 from 7:30-9 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 3:30-6 p.m. All auditions will be in the high school library. Those trying out are only required to come to one audition.

Ruthless Ruth returns to Saint Charles Brewing Feb. 1
The live music of Ruthless Ruth will be presented at Saint Charles Brewing in Charles City, starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Ruthless Ruth is a high-energy singer-songwriter born and raised in Mason City. Her blends of folk, pop, and country explore love, heartbreak, and experiences growing up along the Winnebago River. She covers songs from smooth R & B to rockabilly country.

Sammy Miller at NIACC Jan. 17
Sammy Miller and the Congregation will be performing at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The group plays joyful jazz that entertains, enriches, and uplifts, led by Grammy-nominated drummer Sammy Miller, who has become known for his relentless focus on making music that feels good as a drummer, singer, and bandleader.
Upon completing his master’s degree at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation.
Band members have performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Lady Gaga, and Queen Latifah at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Hollywood Bowl.
Their two-day residency at NIACC will engage high school music students with clinics and workshops as part of the NIACC Jazz Festival.

Classical music at Gallagher Bluedorn
“Mozart, Verdi & Friends” will be presented at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. UNI Opera will join forces with the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Rebecca Burkhardt, as well as the Concert Chorale and UNI Singers, under the direction of Amy Kotsonis. Comedy show at NIACC Jan. 25
“The Good Humor Men 2,” a comedy show featuring stand-up comics Pete Lee, Keith Alberstadt and Andy Hendrickson, will be presented at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
Pete Lee (The Tonight Show and Comedy Central) returns with comics Keith Alberstadt (The Late Show and Last Comic Standing), and Andy Hendrickson (The Late Show with David Letterman) for an evening packed with punchlines, devilishly clever writing, and hair-trigger laughs.
