Area Art and Entertainment Briefs: ‘Beauty and the Beast’ auditions set for April
The Charles City community theater group the Stony Point Players announced to its members Tuesday night that it will be presenting Disney’s stage version of “Beauty and the Beast” as its musical production next summer. The dates of the production will be Friday through Sunday, June 26-28, with evening performances on Friday and Saturday and an afternoon matinee on Sunday. Auditions for the upcoming Stony Point Players production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be Tuesday, April 21; Thursday, April 23 and Saturday April 25 at North Grand Auditorium. Interested actors are asked to enter at the loading dock doors.

Tuesday and Thursday auditions will be from 6-9 p.m. while Saturday’s audition will be from 9 a.m. to noon. It is only necessary to attend one audition.

The play will require mainly high school and adult actors, but there will be several chorus parts and other roles for kids in third through eighth grades. Third through eighth graders who want to audition must be accompanied by an adult.

CCMS to present “The Snow White Variety Show” March 20-21
Charles City Middle School’s spring production will be “The Snow White Variety Show,” presented at North Grand Auditorium on Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m. The audience becomes the live studio audience on a talk show, “Real Talk with Fairytale Legends,” where the seven dwarves tell the story of Snow White as the Fairytale Players bring it to life.

Fill an ‘Empty Bowl’ on March 21 at the CCAC
The Charles City Arts Center’s annual Empty Bowls fundraiser returns on Saturday, March 21 with a striking deal: $10 for a handmade bowl by a local potter, filled with homemade soup from community volunteers. All the night’s proceeds will be split between Messiahs Food Pantry and the CCAC. The event begins at 4 p.m.

‘Jivin’ With Jazz’ to be March 31
Charles City High School’s annual “Jivin’ With Jazz,” night will be Tuesday, March 31, starting at 6 p.m. at the Youth Enrichment Center at the Floyd County Fairgrounds. CCHS Jazz groups will perform and dinner will be served.

CCHS to present ‘M*A*S*H’ April 17-18
Charles City High School will present a stage version of M*A*S*H as its spring drama production. The show will be at North Grand Auditorium on Friday, April 17 and Saturday April 18. 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets will go on sale later this month.
