Public events scheduled in the Charles City Area

MONDAY, APRIL 22 – EARTH DAY


SATURDAY, APRIL 27

Charles City Baseball Club work day to help get the Charles City ballfields ready for the upcoming season, working on dugouts, fencing, etc., starting at 8:30 a.m. at Sportsmen’s park, Zoetis Fields and Lions Park Fields; all welcome to help.

Floyd County Museum annual spring rummage sale, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; rummage sale donations will begin being accepted April 2.


WEDNESDAY, MAY 1

Retirement open house for Charles City School District retirees, 4-6 p.m. at the Zastrow Room in the Charles City Public Library.


FRIDAY, MAY 3

Me & My VIP Dance Party will be 6 to 8 p.m. at the Youth Enrichment Center at the Floyd County Fairgrounds, sponsored by ISU Extension and Outreach Floyd County; open to youths age preschool to 4th grade with an adult VIP, who can be a parent, other family member or other caring adult in their lives; register by April 26 by calling 641-228-1453.


SATURDAY, MAY 4

Marble Rock Historical Society soup supper and bake sale, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Old Lutheran Church.

The Floyd County Treasurer’s Office will be closed to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


TUESDAY, MAY 14

Marble Rock Historical Society Car Show and Museum Open House, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., free popcorn and root beer floats; bake sale and lunch available; grand opening of the Eclectic Emporium Gift Shop, and nine museum buildings open free of charge; car show trophies awarded at 1 p.m..

REGULAR EVENTS

• Charles City Farmers Market held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. starting Saturday, May 4, and running through Saturday, Oct. 19, adjacent to Central Park along Blunt Street.

• 2023 income tax preparation and efiling appointments are being taken at the Floyd County Extension office, at 641-228-1453.

• Charles City Mobile Food Pantry distribution first Wednesday of each month from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Youth Enrichment Center at the Floyd County Fairgrounds, 2516 7-Mile Road, Charles City; for more information call 641-220-1769.

• Messiah’s Food Pantry, open 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, noon to 3 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays; 102 N. Main St., Charles City, access at the rear of the building; for more information call 641-257-1119.

• Floyd and Mitchell Counties Child Abuse Prevention Council (FMCCAPC) meets the third Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Floyd County Department of Health and Human Services, 1206 S. Main St, Charles City.
