Mason City man charged in two counties in domestic assault

The Mason City woman told her live-in boyfriend repeatedly that she wanted out of the vehicle and when she tried to escape at an intersection in Floyd County, he pulled her back in as he accelerated, according to court documents. She wound up with three broken bones from the door slamming on her foot. Terry Dale Braun, 50, is facing charges in two counties.

Braun is charged in Floyd County with domestic abuse assault, third offense – a class D felony — and misdemeanor false imprisonment for the Sept. 14 incident at the intersection of Highway 18 and B30. His initial appearance in Floyd County Court is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 He is charged with the same counts in Cerro Gordo County where he is incarcerated.

According to criminal complaints, Braun has two prior convictions for domestic abuse. One in 1998 and the other in 2014.

On Sept. 14, he and his girlfriend were traveling from their home in his vehicle and she said “numerous times she wanted out of his vehicle and he would not stop,” a criminal complaint says. When she tried to get out at a stop sign, “Terry accelerated the vehicle” and pulled her back in. The passenger side door slammed on her foot, breaking three bones. She also had bruising on her arm from Braun grabbing her.
