Hawkeye Preferred Tooling begins second expansion

Molds manufacturer sees warehouse progress

A Charles City business is launching its second facilities expansion to accommodate growing production. Hawkeye Preferred Tooling Group is watching a new warehouse take shape this month, with good weather aiding the concrete floor finish for the 6,400 square-foot structure.

“The weather has definitely helped tremendously,” Vice President Andrew Hobson said.

Framing for the warehouse is scheduled to begin the week of Dec. 28, and the project is expected to be finished by the middle of January. The company had been considering another expansion for about a year, Hobson said, to house components for Hawkeye’s growing plastic production; construction began Dec. 1.

“We just needed to do it. We ran out of space,” Hobson said.

Hawkeye Preferred Tooling Group previously added a 5,400 square-foot addition in February 2013, with 15 new positions available in a workforce expansion at that time. The company specializes in molding for the plastics industry, Hobson said, focusing on automotive, agriculture and consumer products; the company works with clients all over the world, he added. The business was established in 2001.
