Chicago man charged with cocaine possession in CC

Suspect arrested after he attempted to flee on foot, police say

A Chicago man remains in Floyd County Jail after attempting to flee police officers with possession of cocaine.

Stephen Williams, 24, is charged with public intoxication, interference with official acts and possession with an intent to deliver a cocaine base within 1,000 feet of school property –– a Class B felony –– and a failure to affix tax stamp –– a Class D felony.

Charles City Police officers pulled over a vehicle while responding to a disturbance in the 2100 block of Clark Street, police reports say. Williams took off running from officers, causing bodily injury to an officer in the process, reports say.

Officers were able to take Williams into custody and booked him at 2:40 a.m.
