ON THE TRAIL

Surroundings: Patrons ordered coffee and breakfast at Klunder’s Kafe in New Hampton, where Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke for about an hour in a nook off of the main entrance.

Audience: About 18 people settled in, asking Huckabee questions mostly on his leadership record and what it would take to beat Hillary Clinton, regarded as the Democratic front runner. Audience members passed Huckabee books and caps to sign afterwards, widely complimenting him on his Fox News program “Huckabee,” a political commentary that ended Jan. 3.

What’s next: Huckabee moved on to Cresco, Northwood, Forest City and Osage on Tuesday before taking time off to visit family in Arkansas over the Christmas holiday.
