Council sets new budget schedule
When the Christmas tree is ready to come down and the first of New Year’s resolutions are broken, the Charles City Council will already be forging ahead on a new budget plan for fiscal year 2016-17. Between Jan. 6-28, council members will meet for budget workshops covering everything from public safety, housing and city staff, to park space, infrastructure projects and city utilities. The public hearing and budget adoption date is set for March 7. The budget submission deadline to the county auditor is set for March 15. At this time, all workshops are scheduled to take place in the council chambers at City Hall.

Jan. 21, 4 p.m. –– Water, wastewater, Administration pt. 1
Water, meter deposits, TIF, utility improvements
Jan. 25, 5 p.m. –– Administration pt. 2
Business office, city administrator, city clerk, mayor/council, engineering, debt service
Jan. 28, 4 p.m. –– Streets/ capital projects
RUT, CVTC, Option tax, 2013 flood, waste fund
