First Security Bank recently donated $1,200 to the Charles City Police Department’s fundraising efforts toward maintaining its new K-9 unit, Jordy.

Jordy, a 2-year old Dutch shepherd, is a rescue animal that has been working with the Charles City Police Department for several months. He joins his handler, Officer Dario Gamino, for each shift and, together, they have successfully seized illegal drugs on multiple occasions in the short time they’ve worked together.

“The funds raised and given by the public and local businesses have been incredibly generous,” said Police Chief Hugh Anderson. “We have had enough to pay for Jordy, a kennel unit for the squad car, and Jordy’s incidentals. The funds will continue to pay for costs associated with his care including boarding as needed, food, veterinary care and other costs that will arise.”

First Security Bank & Trust has locations across North Central Iowa and headquarters in Charles City.
