The Charles City High School vocal music department presented its 2019 Pops Concert Tuesday evening at North Grand Auditorium.

This was the second year for the concert, which featured the music of the 1970s and 80s last year. This year, the show stepped back into the 1950s and 60s, performing classic pop songs such as “Stand By Me,” “What a Wonderful World” and “California Dreamin’.”

In addition to performances by the Comet Chorus, the Concert Choir and vocal ensembles 2JazzedUp and Rhymes With Orange, the show also featured some lip-syncing of Sonny and Cher by Cael Ruzicka and Nora Sullivan, a parody of “The Newlywed Game” with teachers Josh and Tara Dean and Phoebe and Rob Pittman, and a performance of “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by senior Olivia Wolfe and her father, Bill Wolfe.

Emily and Lily Woodard also performed a cover of “I Will Follow Him” as a part of their rock band, Beautiful Chaos.

The emcees for the evening were students Aaron Montemayor, Kaydon Cormeny, Nathan Shultz, Madison Lincoln, Anastasia Baldus, Olivia Wolfe and Ruby Peterson.

CCHS vocal music director is Derek Sturtevant. Creative consultant was Michelle Grob, and accompanists were Chris Cleveland, Jacob Gassman, Isaak Jensen and Hayden Pleggenkuhle.
