Memorial Day services set in Charles City

A Memorial Day service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the Floyd County courthouse.
The service will begin with a welcome by Rep. Todd Prichard, D-Charles City, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves; followed by the raising of the colors by the Boy Scouts, presentation of arms by an ceremonial unit, playing taps and echo and firing a round.
The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by American Legion Auxiliary junior members, followed by the national anthem, an invocation by Patty Kellogg, a proclamation by Mayor Dean Andrews, then music by the Charles City High School band.
Boy Scouts will read “In Flanders Fields,” the American Legion Auxiliary will place a wreath, Justin Heyer will read the Gettysburg Address, and the ceremonial unit will fire three rounds to salute departed comrades.
The service will end with taps and a benediction.
Persons attending the event are suggested to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain the service will be held at the VFW.
