A Charles City man was charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree robbery after allegedly attacking another man sitting in a truck at the man’s home Monday in Charles City.

According to court records, Kristopher Hugh Viers, age 36, showed up at the alleged victim’s residence while the man was sitting in his truck.

Viers “began to confront the victim about a flashlight (Viers) was missing,” the police report said. Viers “did not like the victim’s answer and opened the drivers side door to the victim’s truck and began to punch the victim in the head,” the report said.

Viers “then began to choke the victim, causing him to go unconscious. The victim was able to exit the vehicle and yell for help. The victim sustained bodily injury,” the record states.

Viers allegedly stole the keys to the vehicle and left the scene, according to the report.

A warrant was issued Tuesday for Viers’ arrest, and he was taken into custody that day at his home by Charles City police.

As of Thursday evening, Viers was being held in the Floyd County Jail on a $27,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 20.

First-degree burglary is a Class B felony, punishable on conviction by up to 25 years in prison. Third-degree robbery is an aggravated misdemeanor.
