Public invited to candidate forums, Oct. 16 and Oct. 23

To the Press

Two public forums are scheduled in the coming weeks to hear from candidates running for the Charles City Council and the Charles City Community School District Board of Education.

The first candidates’ forum will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Charles City NIACC Center.

That event will feature the five candidates running for three seats on the City Council. Incumbent Keith Starr and candidates Phillip Knighten, Phoebe Pittman, Craig Hamm and Ann Teeter have all been invited and have agreed to participate.

Two other incumbents whose terms are expiring, Michael Hammond and Dan Mallaro, have opted not to run for re-election.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, a candidates’ forum featuring the three candidates running for the school board will be offered at 7 p.m., also at the Charles City NIACC Center.

Incumbent Robin Macomber is seeking re-election, while challengers Janiece Bergland and Patricia Rottinghaus have also filed to run. Two seats are available. Incumbent Jason Walker has chosen not to run again.

Both events are being hosted by the Charles City Chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce. Both events are free and open to the public.

Persons who wish to ask questions of the candidates are asked to submit them in writing the night of the forums, or in advance at the Chamber of Commerce office, 401 N. Main St., or by email to info@charlescitychamber.com.
