A Charles City man was arrested in Mason City this week on a Floyd County charge of manufacturing a controlled substance.

Travis Alan Kummer, age 36, was arrested Tuesday at the Cerro Gordo County Jail in Mason City and charged with possession of items consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

The charge apparently is connected to an incident that was reported in April where a “mobile meth lab” was located by a trail at the Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City after law enforcement investigated a suspicious backpack.

The backpack was reported to authorities on the afternoon of April 19, and Charles City police said at the time a suspect had been identified.

On July 8, a criminal complaint was filed in Floyd County District Court, accusing Kummer of manufacture of a controlled substance, a Class B felony.

“The defendant was seen in possession of and located in the area of a black backpack which contained items consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine,” the criminal complaint said.

The items were sent to the state crime lab, which confirmed the items inside the backpack “were used to manufacture methamphetamine using the one pot method,” the record states.

“The defendant was located near the area where the backpack was discarded and acknowledged possessing and discarding the clandestine laboratory,” the complaint says.

On July 8 a $25,000 cash-only warrant was issued for Kummer for a controlled substance violation, and the warrant was served this week. He is being held in the Floyd County Jail.
