Mark that three in a row.

Rhymes with Orange, the premier vocal jazz group at Charles City High School, received a Division 1 rating at the State Vocal Jazz Festival held last Saturday at Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi.

“We received a Division 1 – superior – rating from all three judges,” said Derek Sturtevant, the high school vocal music director.

It is the third year the group has competed at the State Vocal Jazz Festival, and the third year in a row it has received the highest rating a group can get, Sturtevant said.

The group performed three songs for the judges – “Ain’t No Mountain High,” “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “Let Your Light Shine,” he said.

Rhymes with Orange is the top auditioned vocal ensemble at Charles City High School. It has been in existence for four years.
