Don't let TP shortage lead to faulty flushes

Dan Rimrod is worried about hoarding and a toilet paper shortage.

Not necessarily for his own use, but for what it might mean for the Charles City waste water treatment system.

Rimrod is the city’s waste water superintendent, and he’s concerned that if people don’t have toilet paper they may use other things that should not be flushed down the toilet.

Things like personal wipes, baby wipes, facial tissues and paper towels are not flushable — even if they say “flushable” on the label, he said.

Other things that shouldn’t be flushed and that can cause problems in a homeowner’s pipes or eventually in the city wastewater treatment system are diapers, any type of cloth or towel and feminine hygiene products.

Items like that belong in the trash can, not down the toilet, according to information Rimrod provided.
