A drive-thru barbecue was held Friday evening at Charles City High School, where graduating seniors received a meal prepared by the “high school family” as part of the district’s efforts to honor the grads in lieu of a formal ceremony at this time.

A group informally known as “the grilling crew” at the high school prepared the food on the grill. The meat was donated by local establishments, as was water, chips and other provisions. High school staff and parents were in charge.

Meals were distributed in the same safe manner as food service meals. Graduates wore their caps and senior T-shirts which read “2020 The Quarantine Class,” and a photo was taken of each student as he or she drove through.
