Kids can make their own clay creatures in summer art classes offered by the Charles City Arts Center.

The Arts Center will offer two sessions of classes in July. Each class will be a complete ceramic project, and will be taught by elementary school art teacher Meredith Hamm.

“We will be taking precautions to ensure social distancing and proper sanitation,” said Arts Center Director Emily Kiewel. “We will be disinfecting before and after each class with appropriate cleaners.”

Classes will be outside, weather permitting, and children will be sitting 6 feet apart from each other unless they are members of the same household and come together.

“Each child will have their own materials and tools so they do not have to share,” Kiewel said.

• Session 1 will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays, July 9 and 16.

• Session 2, “Pokemon Balls,” will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, July 23 and 30.

Classes are limited to nine participants to meet social distancing restrictions. An additional class may be added if there is enough demand. Price per session is $30 for Arts Center members and $35 for others.

More kid’s classes will be offered in August, Kiewel said.
