The Charles City Community School District received notification Monday from Floyd County Public Health that four individuals in the district tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.

Two of the positive tests were at Charles City High School — one 12th-grader and one staff member. The third positive test was of an 8th-grader at Charles City Middle School. The fourth positive test reported was at Carrie Lane High School, according to the district’s online “COVID Dashboard.”

As of Monday evening, there have been 41 individuals in the school district who have tested positive since the start of the school year.

Seven individuals were quarantined on Monday. A total of 145 individuals in the district have been quarantined since the start of the school year. Quarantined individuals have been in close contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19. This person they came in contact with is not necessarily connected with the school. Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of someone for more than 15 minutes.

Upon receiving notification of the positive tests, the district temporarily closed off all areas of the building the individuals used to clean and disinfect the spaces. Charles City is cooperating with the Floyd County Department of Health and will take the steps necessary to protect the health of individuals in the district.

Individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 will be allowed to return to school once they are 24 hours with no fever and symptoms are improving, and 10 days since symptoms started. If no symptoms, 10 days from the day of the test. The campus attendance office will monitor the return date.
