A combine finishes up the final row in a cornfield south of Charles City this week, as tall wind generators stand sentry.

The weekly crop progress and condition report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture says harvest is nearing completion in some parts of the state. In the north central region of Iowa that includes Floyd County, the corn harvest for grain was 70% complete at the beginning of this week, and the soybean harvest was nearly finished at 98%.

Across the state the corn harvest was at 65% finished, more than three weeks ahead of the same time last year and just over two weeks ahead of the state average. Statewide only 10% of the soybeans remained to be harvested at the beginning of the week.
