Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Mother Nature closed out the Christmas season with some decorative holiday icing Sunday morning, as Charles City residents and people throughout northern Iowa woke up to see a winter wonderland.

Hoarfrost — a grayish-white crystalline deposit of frozen water vapor formed in clear still weather — could be seen everywhere, from tree branches to fence posts to walkways and roadways. At the suggestion of his wife, Press reporter James Grob took a walk around town and tried to capture some photos of the phenomenon, although looking at the pictures can’t quite emulate the experience of viewing the beauty in person.
