With the sub-zero temperatures has come an orange glow in the western sky at sunset in Charles City over the last few days. In one of the longest cold snaps in recent memory, low temperatures have been well below zero throughout the Upper Midwest over the last week and high temperatures have very rarely gotten above zero degrees.

The high temperatures are expected to rise into the single digits on Tuesday, then gradually warm into the teens for highs by this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature could reach 30 degrees by Sunday and go above freezing — to 35 degrees — next Monday.
