Charles City students, coaches and parents were invited to walk down the “orange carpet” Monday evening at the Comet Choice Awards, held at the Floyd County Youth Enrichment Center.

Athletes and participants in other extra-curricular activities such as band, orchestra, choir, speech and drama were honored by their coaches and directors.

The top female athlete was Lydia Staudt and the top male athlete was Ian Collins. Griffin Franksain won for both Outstanding Actor and the National Choir Award.

The awards:

Best Individual Performance in a single Comet sporting event: Ian Collins – State Championship Double in 2021 (High Jump of 6-9 and Long Jump 23-0.75).

National School Orchestra Award: Emma Schmeidel.

Bernie Saggau Award: Mario Hoefer.

Outstanding Performer Speech: Christian Howe.

Stan White Award: Rachel Chambers and Colton Crooks.

Louis Armstrong Award: Jackson Cook.

The Vocal Jazz Award: Tyrell Baglan.

Best team performance in a single event: Comet Football Homecoming Victory.

Outstanding Actor: Griffin Franksain.

National Choir Award: Griffin Franksain.

Best Teammate Award: Landon Luft (football) and Mario Hoefer (boys basketball).
