Rockford woman announces Statehouse candidacy

Staff report

18_W_StokesRockford resident and education consultant Stacie Stokes is announcing her candidacy for the Iowa Statehouse, running against incumbent, Representative Todd Prichard for the House District 52 seat. The district includes Floyd and Chickasaw Counties, and eastern Cerro Gordo County.

Stokes is an education consultant at AEA 267, and has been involved in the field of education since 1992, including jobs as a substitute teacher and special education instructor.

“My passion lies in education, and I want to be a voice in education as well,” Stokes said. “That’s one of the main reasons I’m running. I have that experience and background, whereas there’s probably not that many people with that background able to run.”

The military service of her father, brother-in-law and oldest son inspired her to campaign, Stokes said.

“I’m not a politician by any means, so it’s going to be a straight up learning experience, and I realize that,” Stokes said. “I’m anxious to hear what the people have to say, and what their issues are. I represent them.

“I’m hoping to create more of a collaboration rather than just pick sides, or go in any extreme,” she added.

Stokes is involved in GROW Rockford Together and with Riverside Friends Church in Mason City.  She and her husband, Jason have been married for 23 years and have three sons, Jesse (US Marine), Jacob (9th grade), and Josiah (7th grade).
