OSAGE — It can be best referred to as a “blooper with eyes”.

Hunter Wagner’s two-out single found a patch of green in right field ahead of a hard-charging Noah Schlader driving in an insurance run for Osage against Charles City in the bottom of the sixth of their non-conference baseball matchup Tuesday night.

That was the first salvo in a four-run rally that broke open what was a close game as the Green Devils prevailed, 7-2.

The Comets led 1-0 after two innings before Osage senior Trevor Olsen tripled home Ben Grimm to tie the game. Nathan Bushbaum followed with a RBI single, putting the Green Devils up, 2-1.

Osage added an unearned run in the fourth inning when Grimm’s two-out grounder to the right side of the infield was booted allowing Lucas Weigle to score.

The Comets manufactured a run in the fifth. With one out, junior Nate Lasher singled up the middle for his second hit of the game. Lasher went on to steal second and third in a span of three pitches from Osage starter Caleb Bushbaum, then scored on Brady Sickman’s long sacrifice fly to right field.

Jordan Kapping, who also had two hits for the Comets, suffered the loss after giving up two earned runs in four innings.

Osage improved to 5-10 while Charles City fell to 6-9.

The Comets will play Waverly-Shell Rock tonight at Wartburg College.
