Grace Christine Thomason

Grace Christine (Weiss) Thomason was born on June 5, 1915, on the family farm in rural Greene, Butler County, the daughter of Herman and Clara (Ramker) Weiss and entered into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at the Valley View Care Center in Greene. She received her education in country school graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in Greene in 1933.

Grace worked on the family farm tackling the daily chores that included milking all the dairy cows by hand. She fell in love with Wayne Thomason before he entered the service and waited for marriage until he returned from the war. Grace and Wayne were united in marriage on Aug. 2, 1945, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene. This union was blessed with three children. Grace was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to caring for her family. Grace was an amazingly kind and loving person who especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene, Grace belonged to the church circle, participated in the Fall Festivals, and generously gave of her time and resources. She was gifted in music and blessed others as a lifelong member of the choir. Grace taught herself to play guitar and piano and provided special music for weddings and county fairs. Grace displayed her Christian fruits by “loving her neighbor.” Along with Grace’s cheerful visits, they were blessed with cookies, popcorn balls or cinnamon rolls.

Living family members include: one son Terry (Ann) Thomason, Greene; daughters: Carolyn (Chuck) Thompson, Greene; Lynette Weber, Mason City; six grandchildren: Chris (Lupe) Thomason, Sara (Dan) Marsh, Patrick (Kelly) Thomason, Shawn (Kim) Thompson, Jennifer (Chris) Lampe, Nathan Miller (Kara, special friend); 14 great-grandchildren: Paige Marsh, Claire Marsh, Lauren Marsh, Cole Marsh, Timothy Thomason, Savannah Thomason, Grace Thomason, Grant Thomason, Caleb Thompson, Genny Thompson, Jaylynn Lampe, (twins) Payton and Sydney Lampe, Mariah Miller; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Grace is preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 1973, granddaughter, Dawn Thompson, her parents, five brothers and a sister.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Grace Thomason Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 294, Greene, IA 50636. Funeral Services for Grace Christine Thomason, 100, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene, with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be one hour before services on Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church.
