Wilma Mae Witzel, 94, formerly of Rockford, IA died Friday, October 30, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Mason City, IA.A visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home in Rockford. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with a one hour prior visitation on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 21 3rd St, NW, Rockford. Reverend Judy Wooton will be officiating. There will be a private family graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Rudd, IA.

Wilma was born on October 18, 1921 in Greene, IA to Henry Calvin Teeple and Susan Adella (Thomas) Teeple. She grew up in Greene and graduated from Greene High School. Wilma met the love of her life, Lyle Witzel, in Nora Springs at the roller skating rink. The couple married on August 31, 1941 in Greene.

Wilma and her husband moved to Rudd and farmed the Witzel family farm. Wilma worked as a homemaker her whole life and raised their three daughters: Judy, Diane, and Roberta. After 30 years residing near Rudd, they decided to move into town in Rockford but still continued farming.

Over her lifetime Wilma was very involved with multiple groups and organizations including: a member of the First United Methodist Church and church circles; the American Red Cross Blood Mobile; Royal Neighbors; and a “Pink Lady” for the Floyd County Hospital Auxiliary.

In her free time she loved gardening and her flowers especially daffodils and tulips. Wilma enjoyed playing card games and bingo. She was an avid Rockford Warriors fan and Minnesota Twins fan. Wilma traveled and took family trips out West. The light of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilma will also be remembered for her strong faith; she was a dedicated Christian to her church and community. She will be remembered by her family as a giving person with a big heart, always helping anyone in need. Those left to cherish her memory include her three daughters: Judy (Jim) Hilgendorf of Clear Lake, Diane Witzel of Eagan, MN and Roberta (Alan) Russell of Boise, ID; four grandchildren: Darcy (Darian) Hala, David Hilgendorf, Jared (Michelle) LaBounty and Adrienne Russell; two greatgrandchildren: Sam LaBounty and Hudson Hala; sister-in-law Helen Teeple of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Witzel in February of 1980; her parents Henry and Susan Teeple; five brothers: Carlton, Charles, Francis, Clarence and Max Teeple; and two sisters: Elsie Krambeer and Arlene Wedeking.
