Irene Kepple

Irene Kepple, 97, of Charles City, entered her Lord’s presence Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at Hauser Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church. Irene Francis (Caruth) Kepple, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Springer) Caruth, was born on Sept. 9, 1918, in Charles City. She attended school at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Irene and Clark Kepple were united in marriage in 1941 at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Catholic Daughters, St. Anthony’s Circle, and a former 4-H leader. Irene helped deliver Meals on Wheels and was also a member of the Senior Center in Charles City.

Irene was well known for her homemade pies, cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, and lasagna. She enjoyed canning, gardening, card club, puzzles, sewing, and crocheting doilies. Each family member received a baby blanket handmade from Irene. She was an avid reader, reading several books every couple of weeks. Irene’s family enjoyed boating on the Cedar River on weekends. Every summer the family would go fishing in Minnesota. For 30 years Irene and her husband were “snowbirds” in Mission, Texas. Irene was a loving, independent, strong-willed woman who enjoyed taking care of others, especially her family.

Living family members include her four children: Gloria Tibbitts of Freeport, Ill.; Larry (Linda) Kepple of Kingston, Okla.; Pamela (Craig) Stewart of Charles City; and Patricia (Roger) Holck of Rotonda West, Fla; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clark in 2012; and eight brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and/or the I.C. Educational Endowment Fund.
