Milford ‘Mel’ D. Ward

Ward, MMilford “Mel” D. Ward, 90, of Charles City, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 12, 2016 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church, 1110 4th St. SW, Waverly. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Lee. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Following a luncheon, graveside services will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Milford David was born on May 4, 1925, the son of Thad and Mary Bell (Walker) Ward, Russellville, Ark. He attended school in Hamilton, Ohio. He then went to Washington and played semi-pro baseball in the minor leagues. He later worked construction as a carpenter in Ohio. He met Betty Tjabring (Siemons) in 1980 and has spent the greatest part of his life with her. They moved to Charles City in 1992. He continued his career with Henkel Construction in Mason City until approximately 1995. Both of them loved fishing in the area streams and lakes and taking fishing trips to Minnesota. He was an avid sports fan, most especially the Yankees, Kentucky University Basketball teams, and the Green Bay Packers.

Mel is survived by Betty of Charles City; five daughters, Tanya (Terry) Moore, Hamilton, Ohio, Terry (Ken) West, Collinsville, Ohio, Karen Ward, Hamilton, Ohio, Linda (Charles) Fields, Trenton, Ohio, Joane (Steven) Nevin, Lakewood Ranch, Fla.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister Mary Grace Moore, Hamilton, Ohio.

His parents; one son, Richard Ward; two brothers; and one sister preceded him in death.
