Karen Oeltjenbruns

Karen Oeltjenbruns, 77, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City with her family by her side.

A memorial service for Karen Oeltjenbruns will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church in Charles City with the Rev. Tim Robbins officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will take place one hour before the memorial service at the church on Wednesday.

Karen Kay (Jaeger) Oeltjenbruns, the daughter of Lester G. and Nina E. (Phillips) Jaeger, was born Sept. 11, 1938 in Charles City.

She attended country school and graduated from Charles City High School in 1956. Karen worked for Zastrow Noah & Smith Law Firm while in school. She also worked from 1957-1991 at the Atherton Agency and from 1991-2003 at Shankland Insurance. Karen was forced to retire in 2003 due to her health.

Karen married James C. Oeltjenbruns on April 19, 1968. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Candy Jo, who Karen lived with until her passing. James and Karen later divorced. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross-stitch, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, and when she was younger, going to dances.

Living family members include her daughter, Candy Jo Payne of Charles City; sister, Diana Engelhardt of Charles City; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father in Feb. 1969; mother on Dec. 20, 2003; two brothers: Wayne Jaeger on Feb. 13, 1989 and Dale Jaeger in July 2014; two sisters: June Huxohl in 2002 and Lois Jaeger as an infant; and her ex-husband, James Oeltjenbruns on July 27, 1972.
