Cora LeMaster

Cora LeMaster, 96, of Charles City, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral service for Cora LeMaster will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Burial will be at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville at 2:30 p.m.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Cora Elizabeth (Klenk) LeMaster was born July 1, 1919 in rural southeast Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Villers) Klenk. As a young lady, Cora worked as a maid and nanny in Marshalltown, Iowa and during this time met her future husband, Vernon B. LeMaster. They were united in marriage on December 31, 1942 in Abilene, Texas. While Vernon served with the U.S. Army in England for 3 1/2 years, Cora contributed to the war effort, along with millions of other Americans, by sewing backpacks, tents and parachutes at defense related industries in Waterloo, Iowa. Cora was a homemaker throughout most of her life. She was a modest, reserved and gracious lady respected by many for her kind and generous hospitality.

Living family members include her three sons: Lowell (Vicki) LeMaster of Wonder Lake, Illinois, Charles (Susan) LeMaster of Charles City and James LeMaster of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Mary (David) Vensland of Champlin, Minnesota; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Klenk of Charles City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; three brothers: Earl, Robert and Russell Klenk; step-father, William Nathaniel Marshall; two step-brothers: Vern and Wilbur Marshall; and three step-sisters: Hazel Dickey, Nina Bristley and Viola Hancock.
