Maxine Stafford

Maxine Stafford, 83, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A graveside service for Maxine Stafford will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City with Rev. Jane Keel from Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City officiating. Family and friends will gather at Hauser Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, and process to the cemetery for the graveside service.

Maxine Louise (Sailer) Stafford, the daughter of August and Bena (Ruter) Sailer, was born Oct. 22, 1932 on the family farm in rural Ackley. She attended country school until 7th grade and then went to school in Ackley, graduating from Ackley High School in 1951. Maxine was involved in the glee club, band and the Y teen club while in school. She also took piano lessons from the time she was in the 4th grade through 12th grade.

Maxine worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Hampton as a Nurse’s Aide and bookkeeper, as a head cashier at the Clifton Supermarket in Iowa Falls and as a secretary for Carstens Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Ackley.

She was united in marriage to Carl Stafford in 1966 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, and the couple made their home in Waverly after marriage. They enjoyed having poodles as family pets. Maxine also liked hymns, country music and dancing when she was younger. She loved her husband, Carl, very much. Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl in 2010 and her brother.
