Mabel (Thorson) Exline Indahl, the daughter of Christ and Lena Thorson was born on May 6, 1910 in Island Lake, Minnesota.

She received her education in Debs, MN and worked in Chicago, Floyd and Austin. While in Floyd she met George Exline and in 1931 they were married in Austin, Minnesota. They farmed north of Charles City and raised four children. After the death of George in 1959 she stayed on the farm for many years. Through the years Mabel enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Wyoming, Texas, Washington, D.C., Virginia and spent lots of time in California and Colorado. Later on, she decided to move back to her childhood farm and raised calves with her brother and sister. A few years later she married Wally Indahl a retired Minnesota State Trooper. They lived on a lake near Bemidji until his death in 1999 when she returned to Charles City. Her travels continued to New York, North Carolina, Colorado, and Wisconsin.

Mabel enjoyed friends dropping in for coffee, playing cards, bingo, Rummikub and reading her Bible every day, memorizing 40 plus verses. She began quilting in her 70’s and continued until she was 99. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and some great-great grandchildren are all proud recipients of one of her special quilts.

She joined The Salvation Army when she was 20. After her marriage to George she joined the Howardville Wesleyan Methodist Church and remained active in the church for many years. Upon her return to Charles City she joined Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Moose Club, American Legion, and past president of a ladies aid group in Pinewood, MN. Mabel’s mission in life was helping others, always with a smile on her face, and a kind word. Her kind and generous manner will forever be remembered.

Living family members include: one son Ed; daughters Norma and Donna; daughter-in-law Darlene Exline; eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, her husbands George and Wally, son James, infant grandson Richard Exline, daughter-in-law Anne Exline and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
