James Douglas Sweet

James Douglas Sweet was born on Nov. 6, 1929, in Charles City, to Lowell and Edna (Hodge) Sweet. He passed away on June 10, 2016, in Fullerton, Calif., at the age of 86.

Following his high school graduation, “Jim” entered the United States Air Force. He earned the rank of Sargent and served in the Korean War, stationed at Brady Field, in Fukuoka, Japan.

In Charles City, Jim married Joann Frances Ritter on June 1, 1954.

His occupations included, McDonald Douglas Aircraft 1955-1990, and a licensed Realtor from 1988 until 2016. Jim was still working until his passing.

He and his wife and childen lived in Norwalk, Calif., for 42 years until the sale of the family home and moved to Whittier, Calif. in 2002.

Jim served on the Norwalk Planning Commission from 19821996. He also served as Chairman of the Property Maintenance Rehabilitation Appeals Board.

He was affiliated with St. Pius X Catholic Church in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; St. Bruno’s Catholic Church in Whittier, Calif.; VFW; American Legion and the California Association of Realtors.

Jim is survived by his eight children: Mike, Julie, Jolene, Jeff, Jon, Jamie, Joe and Janell; son-in-law, Paul Manley; daughters-in-law, Dannielle, Helen and Joanne Sweet; brother, Tracy Sweet, and sister-in-law, Sherry Sweet; grandchildren, Melissa Manley Carter (Aaron), Jason Manley (Amanda) Dylan, Lola, Joy, Joshua Sweet; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Kolbe and Brooklynn Manley.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, 10:30 am, at St. Bruno’s Catholic Church, Whittier, California. Private Interment.
