Norma E. Bromberg

DUBUQUE — Norma E. Bromberg, 91, of Dubuque, formerly of East Dubuque, Ill., Charles City, and Hudson, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at home.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service for both Norma and Vern will be on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at the Elks Club in Charles City. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque, Ill. is serving the family.

Norma was born in rural Cottonwood, Minn., the daughter of Herman and Esther (Rewerts) Vandevoorde. She was united in marriage to L. J. “Vern” Bromberg in Marshall, Minn. on Oct. 8, 1945. Vern preceded her in death on May 2, 2014.

Norma was a homemaker. She and Vern lived in Charles City from 1951-1986, in Hudson, Fla. from 1986-2006, and in the Dubuque area since 2006. She was a member of Cross Lutheran Church, its Mission Circle, was a charter member of the Charles City Country Club and the Jaycee Wives, where she was past president. In Dubuque, Norma was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Steve) Popelka of Austin, Texas; a son Barry (Kathy) Bromberg of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Dirk (Kelly) Popelka of Austin, Texas, Trevor (fiancée Tory) Bromberg of Johnstown, Colo., and Theresa Bromberg of Cordova, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Dax Andrew and Devyn Willow Popelka of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Esther; her husband Vern; and one brother, Archie.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and the American Heart Association.

Norma’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and Oak Park Place for their kind and compassionate care.
