Robert John Mitchell was born Aug. 5, 1936, in Charles City, Iowa to Ray and Leone (Fredrick) Mitchell. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1955. On Oct. 28, 1956, he married Marjorie “Marge” Beekman from Nashua, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children.

He was one of the first 4-H members in Floyd County, co-founded by his parents. He was an all-conference football player and wrestler during his high school years.  He wore many hats during his life; Bob was a farmer; a precision welder at White Farm, Featherlite, and GMT; a salesman with Harvestor; constructed Mixmills; drove truck for FS Ag; and a salesman with Bankers Life.  When Bob retired from Bankers Life, he enjoyed time in the antique business with Marge and most recently his “Handy Man” business.

Bob took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. He also loved playing cards, bowling, biking, exercising, his coffee groups, volunteering at the Senior Center and the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, and spending time with friends, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to Bob.

His advice to the younger generation…”Do it while you can!”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; his parents: Ray and Leone Mitchell; and two sisters: Mary Stoecker and Nancy Nieman.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Floyd County Cancer Friends.
