Donald “Don” Louis Kober, 72, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City with his family right by his side.

A funeral Mass for Don Kober will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Father Gary Mayer and Deacon Mark Kober officiating the Mass.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday.

Donald Louis Kober, the son of Donald and Lillian (Schovanec) Kober, was born May 10, 1944, in Homer, Nebraska. Don married the love of his life, Janean Tudor, on January 15, 1966, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.  This union was blessed with three children.  Don worked in construction his entire life. He was a construction superintendent in the Midwest, Virginia, Maryland and New York City. No job was too big for him to handle.

Don loved his wife, children and grandchildren very much and was looking forward to his first great-grandchild in December. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren for all of their accomplishments. Don enjoyed watching baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, football and soccer games in which his grandchildren participated. He loved the days of sitting on the driveway watching the little ones ride their bikes. Don made sure there was a bike at Grandpa’s house for each one of them.

Don was a storyteller and a joker. He could always capture an audience with his stories, and he loved to tease the grandkids and his kids when they were young. Don loved family picnics and gathering for the holidays. He was also an avid Yankees fan who subscribed to the MLB Network and SIRIUS so he wouldn’t miss a game. Don will be greatly missed by his entire family.

Living family members include his wife of 50 years, Janean; two daughters: Wendy (Peter) Kokal and Tia (Ryan) McInroy all of Charles City; son, Chad Kober of Charles City; eight grandchildren:  Ali [Begemann] (Chris) Kerber, Ryan Begemann, Tyler Kober, Parker Kober, Renner Kober, Harper McInroy, Holden McInroy and Nathaniel McInroy; four sisters:  Evonne (Leo) Kramper, Dianne (Jack) Sullivan, Susie (Doug) Fisher and Mary (Kerry) Bressler; four brothers:  Tim (Linda) Kober, Lynn Kober, Mark (Tami) Kober and Leo Kramper (as Don would say, “My brother from another mother!”); along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
