Valeska ‘Vee’ Bailey

Valeska “Vee” Bailey, age 81, passed away on Dec. 24, 2018 at Solon Care Center in Solon, IA from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Valeska Ann Moore was born on Oct. 10, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Lyle and Stella (Valesky) Moore. Vee was raised in the state of Indiana and lived in the cities of Logansport, Terre Haute and Valparaiso, IN where she graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1954. She attended Nursing School for two years. Vee was united in marriage to Earl Norman Bailey on March 2, 1957 in Valparaiso, IN. Norm and Vee lived in Columbus, OH, Bloomington, IN and Austin, TX before settling in Iowa City, IA where they have lived since 1966.

Vee was an active mother, wife, business partner, and friend to all those who knew her. Vee was a vital part of the family real estate business and helped Norm run North Bay Inc. for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where she volunteered and taught religious education classes. She was also involved with her P.E.O. Chapter (Iowa City Chapter HI), University Women’s Club and the Lake Hubert Women’s Association. Vee enjoyed tennis, swimming, boating, playing bridge, entertaining and spending time with family and friends. When Vee wasn’t volunteering, or helping Norm with the family business, they enjoyed travelling to their homes in Pine Island, FL and Lake Hubert, MN.

Vee is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Norm Bailey; four children, Valeska Michela Bailey of St. Louis, MO, Bradford (Brenda) Bailey of Floyd, IA, Laura (Chris) Sogard of Indianapolis, IN, and Amanda (Ryder) Houston of Iowa City, IA. Seven grandchildren; Dr. Ryan (Joy) Bailey of Jacksonville, FL, Eric Bailey (Melanie Slattery) of Brooklyn, NY, Katherine Bailey (fiancé Hunter Ortmayer) of Charles City, IA, Abby Sogard and Annabelle Sogard of Indianapolis, IN, Braden Houston and Schuyler Houston of Iowa City, IA. One great granddaughter, Adaline Bailey of Jacksonville, FL. One nephew Chris Moore of Peoria, IL; two great nieces Shelby Moore and Laura Belle Moore of Peoria, IL. Plus, many other nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Valeska was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Stella (Valesky) Moore, her brother Charles Moore, her sister-in-law Sue (Hancock) Moore, and her in-laws, Dr. Earl and Mildred Bailey.

Visitation will be Jan. 4 from 4-7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville, IA and one hour prior to her service at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Avenue, Coralville, IA.

Funeral services for Valeska will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Avenue, Coralville, IA with Father Chuck Adam officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 900 N. Summit St., Iowa City, IA, immediately following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, PEO Educational Fund, St. Thomas More Church and The Alzheimer’s Association of Iowa.
