Richard ‘Dick’ L. Tobin
Richard “Dick” L. Tobin, 78 of Floyd Iowa died Friday night Jan. 25, 2019 at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Richard Lee was born on Aug. 7, 1940 In Charles City the son of Chester and Gertrude (Short) Tobin. He attended school at Immaculate Conception School and later transferred to the Orchard school when his family moved from Charles City. He was honorably discharged after serving with the Marine Corps. He worked for 20 years in the molding department at White Farm in Charles City and worked in construction. He loved woodworking and turned his outdoor building into his work shop. He very much enjoyed Country Western music and was singing “Take Me Home Country Roads” the evening he died. Fishing, hunting and trapping were a lifelong pleasure along with his vegetable garden which grew with each year.
On June 6, 1964 he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson at Immaculate Catholic Church. To this union was born five children.
Those surviving Dick are his wife Shirley of 54 years, children Tammy (Hary) Matthews, Debra (Daniel) Welch, Alisa Tobin, Raina (Chad) Kellogg and Michael (Alicia) Tobin, along with 16 grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters, Catherine (Eldon) Randall, Sharon (Jim) Weigel, two brothers, Larry (Jean) Tobin, Charles (Joann) Tobin and mother-in-law Kathryn Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Matt, three brothers, Jim, Terry, and Roger Tobin and father-in-law, Lawrence Johnson.
No services are planned per Dick’s request.
