Walter A. DavidWalter A. David, 90 a former Charles City resident, died on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Topeka, KS. He died at Brewster Health Center and was a resident of Brewster Place.
Funeral services will be held 11;00 am Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, 312 1st Ave., Charles City. Officiating will be Rev. Daniel Larson. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to donate to Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Charles City where Walter was a long time member.

Walter was born on September 30, 1928 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was one of five children of Walter Alfred and Dora Marie “Hanke”. He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne and then continued his Bachelor Degree in Marketing at the University of Indiana. He was a lifelong Hoosier basketball fan. He then joined the Army during the Korean War serving honorably and faithfully from 1951 until 1953. He was united in marriage to Ethel Lucille Henschell on June 20, 1959 in Fort Wayne. To this union was born two daughters. For the next few years he was employed with Falstaff brewing company and then Magnavox. They moved to Charles City when he became a purchasing agent for Salsbury Laboratories. He continued working for them until his retirement in 1993. In 2016 he moved to Topeka to live closer to his daughter, Susan.
In his spare time Walter was an avid golfer. He was also a sports enthusiast, enjoyed fishing trips with friends, and his morning coffee group.
Those surviving Walter include his two daughters Cathy and her husband Tye Darland; Atlanta, GA., Susan and her husband Brian Beard of Topeka, KS, and six grandchildren David (Julia) Darland, Ben and Christina Darland, Megan, Kyle and Hallie Beard.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 29 years, Ethel David, his parents, and siblings; William David, Ruth Crosby, Mary Ann Roemke, and Velma Eiserle.
