Harold V. Swartzrock

Harold V. Swartzrock, 91, of Charles City, IA died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Mercy One North Iowa in Mason City, IA.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, 703 Milwaukee St, Charles City. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am with a one hour prior visitation on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Harold was born on September 5, 1927 at home on the farm in Charles City to Gilbert and Margaret (Pint) Swartzrock. He attended school then went into the military and served as a mechanic during WWII. On August 9, 1947 he was united in marriage to Darlene (Schoolcraft) Swartzrock at Calvary Baptist Church. To their union, two sons were born, Vernon and Steven.

Throughout his life, Harold sold shell gas, worked on cars and worked 3rd shift at Oliver Tractor Plant. He later took a leap of faith and began Swartzrock Implement Co. in Charles City, which he has owned and operated for 69 years. Harold was extremely hardworking and never officially retired; working up until these last couple of months. He loved Minneapolis Moline tractors and collecting pedal tractors; if you come out to the shop you can see his collection. Harold was one of the founding members of Cedar Valley Engine Club and contributed to the Floyd County Museum.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Steven (Diana) Swartzrock of Charles City; grandchildren, Benjamin Swartzrock, Leah Swartzrock and Daniel Swartzrock; brother-in-law, Edgar (Rosemary) Schoolcraft; sister-in-law, Doris Bettesworth and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene in 2002; parents; son, Vernon Swartzrock and brother, Robert Swartzrock.
In expression of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Floyd County Museum or Cedar Valley Engine Club.
