Richard Allen Leavens, 94, of Charles City, IA died peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, IA.

Richard was born on November 30, 1925 in Shell Rock, IA to Bainbridge and Ruth (Boers) Leavens. Richard farmed all his life. Planting seed and taking care of the land was his great joy. He provided well for his four children and wife, Phyllis. He married Phyllis Irene Merfeld on Dec. 30, 1947 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene, IA. He loved dancing with his wife. Richard had a strong and devoted faith.

Those left to cherish his memory include his four children: Sandra (James) Lantow of Ionia, Alan (CeCe dec.) Leavens of Cedar Falls, Susan (James) Zwanziger of Nashua and Bob (Joanne) Leavens of Brownsburg, IN; eight grandchildren: Rachael Lind, Steve Lantow, Christopher Leavens, Daniel Leavens, Mark Leavens, Nicholas Leavens, Tracy Leavens and Jamie Zwanziger; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Phyllis Leavens in March of 2019; parents, Bainbridge and Ruth Leavens; daughter-in-law, CeCe Leavens; granddaughter, Suzanne Lantow; great-granddaughter, Sophie Meier and brother, Duane Eugene Leavens.

Richard’s parting blessings to his family and friends was always, “God bless you and love you.”
