Robert J. Marker

Robert J. Marker, 89 of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020, in his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1930, in Waterloo, IA, son of Van J. and Evelyn Knowlton Marker. Bob graduated from Floyd High School in Floyd, IA. He honorably served in the Army of the United States from Sept. 11, 1953, to Sept. 9, 1955, as an AN/TPS (Tipsy) Radar Operator/Technician.

After serving in the Army, he returned to Charles City, IA, and worked with his parents on their family farm. On Dec. 7, 1979, he married Marilyn Herrera and they resided with their children in Charles City, Iowa. Bob continued working the farm where he raised livestock, corn and soybeans. He also worked for Terra Industries and Bennett Transport delivering motorhomes to many states across the country.

Bob and Marilyn moved to the family farm north of Charles City in 1984. When he wasn’t busy farming, Bob enjoyed camping, traveling, attending NASCAR races or watching them on TV, snowmobiling, gardening and wintering in Arizona for many years.

In July 2017, Bob and Marilyn moved to Mesa, residing in their new home in a retirement community. He enjoyed going to the pool with family, going to potlucks and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Bob was a hard-working family man. Everyone who met him was so lucky to have known him. He will be dearly missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are: daughters, Deb Richard of Hampton, IA, Cindy Hill of Tempe, AZ, Toni Frey of Tempe, AZ, and Jodi (Brad) Barschow of Happy Valley, OR: seven grandchildren: Ashley, Brady, Collin, Alexia, Ellis, Olivia and Makena; three great grandchildren: Payton, Alexeia and Jase; sister-in-law Carol Weichers of Cedar Falls, IA; sister-in-law Phyllis Numelin of Minneapolis, MN; and bother-in- law Robert Weichers of Hutchinson, KS; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Marilyn Marker; parents Van and Evelyn Marker, parents-in-law Dick and Sophie Weichers; brother-in-law Richard Weichers; brother-in- law Merlin Numelin; and sister-in-law Janet Weichers.

A Celebration of Life was held Friday, July 24, 2020, at A Wise Choice Funeral Home in Mesa, AZ.
