Evelyn M. Fisher

Evelyn M. Fisher age 79, of Nashua, IA died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, IA.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2020 at United Methodist Church in Nashua, IA with Rev. Sarah Namukose celebrating the service. Interment will be at a later date.

Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory — Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Online condolences for the Fisher family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com.

Evelyn Marie Fisher was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Waverly, IA, the daughter of Louis and Sylvia (Fenneman) Steinberg. She grew up on a farm south of Cowell and graduated from Charles City High School in 1958. She began working at Oliver Tractor Company, spending three years in the sales department.

Evelyn was introduced to John Fisher by his aunt Ginny Ackerson, the couple were married on April 24, 1965, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charles City. To this union two sons were born, Jon and Randall. They eventually moved to Nashua.

Evelyn stayed at home and took care of her sons. When the boys grew up she spent time working at B&D Grocery in Nashua. She also volunteered at the middle school and then because part of the janitorial staff where she worked until her retirement.

In her free time, she loved to travel. Even if it was just going over to the Mississippi River to go to a book store and get a bite to eat, then returning home, she loved traveling. Gardening, embroidering, quilting, get-togethers with friends and spending time with her family and grandchildren were a few of her other favorite things to do.

She belonged to many different clubs and organizations, a few of those include Bible Study, P.E.O., Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club and R.E.S.T of Nashua. She was a very active woman.

Evelyn is survived by two sons, Jon (Amy) Fisher of Nashua, IA, Randall (Shawn) Fisher of Nashua, IA; one brother, Bernard “Buzz” (Debbie) Steinberg of Charles City, IA; two sisters, JoAnn (Chuck) Tobin of Charles City, IA, Bernita “Birdie” (David) Koestner of Webster City, IA; seven grandchildren, Shalyn (Kevin) Cagle of El Reno, OK, Coral, Sierra, Cody, Liberty, Clay and Cooper Fisher, all of Nashua, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John in 2011; one brother, Donald Steinberg.
