Amanda Lynn Bearman was born on May 27, 1986, the first child of Bruce and Connie (Schultz) Goddard. She grew up on a farm just north of Nashua, where she was joined by her younger brother, Mathew, 22 months later.

Amanda was a go-getter from the start, she loved life on the farm. She grew up in 4-H, and loved showing cattle, sheep and other projects, and she was a proud member of the Ionia Rustlers.

She attended Nashua-Plainfield schools, and as a high school sophomore, she couldn’t wait any longer for Jim Bearman to ask her out, so she did the “asking,” and they began dating during the Big Four Fair that year. It was a match made in heaven.

She played volleyball and was also in band for a couple of years in high school, but her passions were 4-H, FFA, showing cattle at the Iowa State Fair was one of her favorite things to do. Throughout high school, she worked at Comprehensive Systems in Charles City and found working with the consumers very rewarding.

After graduating from Nashua-Plainfield High School in 2004, Amanda attended Iowa State University for two years and then transferred to Upper Iowa University, where she earned her degree in agriculture business. After college, she worked at Westwood Embro Service, where she served as the office manager.

She married the love of her life, Jim, on Oct. 27, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua, and the couple welcomed two boys — Wyatt, who was born on Oct. 18, 2009, and Walker, who was born on Aug. 20, 2013.

Family meant everything to Amanda, and she loved taking care of her “boys,” and yes, we’ll include Jim in that category. She enjoyed being with her sons when they showed pigs, cattle and other 4-H projects. She was a 4-H leader of the Bradford Eager Beavers.

Amanda loved camping with her family and always looked forward to their annual trip to Kamp Dels in Waterville, Minnesota.

One of Amanda’s best moments as a mom came this summer, when Wyatt won the Chickasaw County Steer Show, and she was very proud that Wyatt took his steer all the way to the Showdown in West Union.

Then again, that was Amanda. She loved her boys. She was proud of them. She would do anything for them. Even as she fought cancer for the past six years, Amanda always – and we mean always — put her family first.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua, was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and her faith was important to her.

Her tenacious battle with cancer and the treatment she endured for the cancer came to an end on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at her home. She was 34, but Amanda, in her take-charge fashion, already has completed the calendar for the following year. She wanted to make sure Jim and the boys were prepared for everything.

This kind, caring woman leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, and, most of all, love to so many. She touched an almost infinite number of lives. Jim, Wyatt, Walker, her family, her friends, the 4-H community and her church will miss her dearly.

Amanda is survived by her husband Jim Bearman of Nashua, IA; two sons, Wyatt Bearman and Walker Bearman, both of Nashua, IA; parents, Bruce and Connie Goddard of Charles City, IA; one brother, Mathew (Jada) Goddard of Nashua, IA; mother-in-law, Joyce Bearman of Ionia, IA; two grandfathers, Paul Schultz of Rockford, IA, Stan Goddard of Charles City, IA; grandmother, Janet (Ron) Bilharz of Nashua, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, David Bearman; grandmothers, Verna Goddard, Luella Eckenrod, Evelyn Bearman; great-grandparents, Albert and Catherine Schultz, Delbert and Marie Bellinger.
