Donald “Don” Nelson Hoy, Jr. was born Dec. 29, 1957 in Charles City, the son of Donald, Sr. and Dorothy (Nordman) Hoy. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1976, and in April 1978, married Deborah Sellers. While he and Deb later divorced, they remained dedicated co-parents to Shannon and Jennifer.

In the spring (May 1) of 1993, Don was united in marriage to Jackie (Linn) Caster. They remained together until the end.

Throughout his life, Don held a variety of positions, many of which connected to his passion for automobiles and love for the outdoors. These include Gary Hyland, B&D Body, the local Ford dealership, Allied Ready Mix, and most recently the Charles City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Over the years, Don spent many long hours earning and maintaining certifications to repair and restore vehicles. He had a knack for bringing new life to these old machines. In fact, he finished some so well, he sold a few!

Don enjoyed camping, spending time with family and friends in his garage, and most importantly, keeping up with his children and grandchildren. He was a sports fan at heart; some may even say fanatic, especially when it came to his beloved Hawkeyes and Vikings. He shared this love for competition with his children, who went on to be successful athletes, and now his grandchildren who embody his love for sports.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Jackie of Charles City; his son Shannon (Amber) Hoy of Marion; daughter Jennifer (Shawn) Castillo of Marion; stepson Kelly Caster of Charles City; grandchildren Austin, Taylor, Wyatt, Audrey, Kaitlin, Kristina, Hailey and Trevor; great-grand daughter Alexandria; his brother Dennis (Gretchen) Hoy of Burleson, Texas; mother-in-law Darlene Linn of Donna, Texas; sister-in-law Gayle Hoy of Floyd; sister-in-law Jeanne Kubiak of Tucson, Arizona; sister-in-law Julie (Roy) Farris of Hurst, Texas; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.

His parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, brother “Randy” Hoy, stepson Kris Caster, father-in-law Bill Linn, brother-in-law Rod Kubiak precede him in death.
