Arthur ‘Art’ Hook

Arthur “Art” Hook, 83, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020. A private graveside family service will take place.

Arthur Dean Hook, the son of Ernest and Alice (Tjabring) Hook, was born on Dec. 22, 1936 in Wellsburg, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Joyce Ruth Hickathier in 1958 until her passing in 1962. He was then united in marriage to Dorothy Eldridge on March 26, 1963. He served in the United States Navy for four years.

Art started working in 1967 for Gil White Plumbing & Heating in Charles City and later worked for various construction sites. He worked his way through the years from journeyman to master plumber. He was a member of the Pipefitters & Plumber Union and Trinity United Methodist Church. Art was an avid sports fan. One of his proudest moments was receiving a letter inviting him to try out as a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. He supported the local teams and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Living family members include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; children: Bruce (Christine) Eldridge of Charles City, Vincent (Julie) Eldridge of Iowa City, Kay (Joe) Fahl of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Donita (Jeff) Joens of Cedar Falls, Doug (Paula) Hook of Plano, Texas, Dodd Hook of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Darla (Matthew) McGettigan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Candy Watson of Vancouver, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; brothers, Frank and Junior Hook; sisters, Ann Cook and Darlene Mast; and twin siblings at birth.

The family would like to thank the staff with St. Croix Hospice and home aides for the wonderful, loving care they gave Art.
