Gwendolyn Anne Marty

Gwendolyn Anne Marty was born on Jan. 3 1938 to Clarence and Odessa Schmidt in Spring Valley, Minnesota died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020 with her family by her side.

She graduated in 1956 from Austin High school. After High School she moved to Chicago Illinois and worked for the Chicago Northern railroad for a short time. She returned to Austin where she married Daniel Zamora. One child, Christopher was born to them. They later divorced. Gwen then worked for St. Olaf Hospital until she married Robert in 1961. They moved to Nebraska where Bob operated a cheese factory for several years. After selling the cheese factory to his brother they moved the family back to Cannon Falls, MN and then to Lake Benton, MN where they farmed.  After selling the farm in 1977 they moved to Charles City where they owned the Coast to Coast Hardware Store. Gwen was a homemaker for many years until she raised her children and went to nursing school graduating Magna Cum Laude at NIACC and began her nursing career. Gwen’s hobbies were bowling, having coffee and crocheting with the ladies, and spending time with the family.

She is survived by her husband Robert Marty of 59 years, children Christopher (LaVonne) Marty, Roberta (William) Shultz, Elizabeth (Barry) Tams, and Jeff (Julie) Marty. 11 grandchildren: Joseph, Kelli, Troy, Nathan, Leah, Lindsey, Hunter, Thomas, Katlyn, and James and 10 great grandchildren. One Sister, Margret (Jerry) Nelson, and brothers Curtis (Dee) Schmidt, Dennis (Judy) Schmidt.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one grandchild Daniel, and brother Terry Schmidt.

A memorial will be held at a later date after cremation.
