Louis ‘Louie’ Peters

Louis “Louie” Peters, 86, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City after a 15 year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A private family service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the United Church of Christ in Colwell, Iowa with Pastor Debra Lincoln officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

A public visitation will be at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Louis Lavern Peters, the son of Bruno and Alice (Bjerke) Peters, was born May 17, 1934 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1957 in Germany. Louis was a medic and played in the Army band. He traveled Europe while there with two buddies, and returned home in December 1957.

Louis was united in marriage to Charyl Hillier in February 1958. He farmed north of Colwell all of his life and the couple moved to Charles City six years ago. Louis also worked as a carpenter for Tinius Construction in his early working career.

Louis was a member of the United Church of Christ in Colwell where he served on the board. He was also active with the Colwell Co-op board, Floyd County Fair board, Pork Producer board, Colwell Betterment and was a boy’s 4-H leader for many years. Louis enjoyed dancing, playing 500, singing and getting together with friends. He especially treasured time spent with his family.

Living family members include his wife of 63 years, Charyl; children: Rick (Molly), Rusty (Mindy) and Reesa (Mark) Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Cindy; grandchildren: Brandon (Jenny), Bree ( Kevin), Luke (Chelsea), Lynzy (Jordan), Reed, Rylan, Sabrina Mitchell, Cassie Mitchell and Vanessa Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Trayton, Everlee, Maverick, Archer and Rosalee; brother, Ron (Joanne) of Colorado; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Alma Hillier; son, Randy; and sister, Joane.
